Terms of Service
These are the terms for using this site and the free tools it hosts, in plain language. By using serin-labs.com, you agree to them. Last updated August 11, 2026.
If you're here about an order, the store policies page covers shipping, returns, refunds, and warranty, and those terms govern purchases. This page covers everything else: the site, the documentation, the flash tool, and the firmware.
Who We Are
Serin Labs is an independent business based in New Jersey, United States. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or certified by Apple Inc., Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, or any other company named on this site. Their trademarks belong to them.
The Site and Its Content
The guides, compatibility records, troubleshooting steps, and blog posts on this site are provided for information. We work to keep them accurate and current, and we correct them when someone shows us they're wrong, but we can't promise they're complete or error-free, and they aren't professional HVAC or electrical advice. Model lineups change, firmware changes, and your unit may differ from the ones we've tested.
Working on Your HVAC Equipment
Installing a controller means opening the front panel of your indoor unit and connecting a cable to a service port. Many owners do it themselves with the power off and the guide open, but it is your equipment and your decision. You accept the risks of working on it, including the possibility that adding a third-party accessory affects your equipment manufacturer's warranty terms. If you're not comfortable doing the work, have an HVAC technician do it. See licenses & compliance for the regulatory details.
The Firmware
The firmware you can install on the controller is free and provided under its own licenses, which are listed with their upstream credits on the licenses & compliance page. Those licenses, not this page, govern your use of the firmware, and like essentially all open-source licenses they provide the software as-is, without warranty of any kind. Serin Labs does not charge for firmware, and no subscription is attached to it.
The Flash Tool
The browser flasher writes firmware to a controller over a USB cable, locally in your browser. It's provided as-is. Flashing firmware to hardware always carries some risk: a wrong selection, an unplugged cable, or a bug can leave a board that needs to be re-flashed. The troubleshooting guide covers recovery, and a board you bought from us that can't be recovered is handled under the store policies. For hardware you sourced yourself, you flash at your own risk.
Purchases
Sales are governed by the store policies, which are part of these terms. Direct orders are processed by Shopify under its own terms; Etsy orders are processed by Etsy under its own terms and Purchase Protection.
Third-Party Services and Links
This site links to services we don't control: GitHub, Discord, Shopify, Etsy, and others. Each is governed by its own terms and privacy policy, and we're not responsible for their content or availability.
Community Spaces
Our Discord server and GitHub repositories are open to everyone. Be decent to people, don't post spam or malicious code, and follow the rules of the platform you're on. We may remove content or restrict access at our discretion to keep those spaces useful.
Intellectual Property
The text, images, and design of this site belong to Serin Labs unless credited otherwise. The firmware is open source and belongs to its respective authors under the licenses on the licenses & compliance page; we don't claim it. You're welcome to link to any page on this site.
Disclaimer of Warranties
The site, the documentation, the flash tool, and the free firmware are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. This disclaimer doesn't touch the return, replacement, and refund commitments we make for hardware in the store policies; those stand.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Serin Labs is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site, the tools, or the firmware, including damage to HVAC equipment, other hardware, or property, or loss of use or data. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the product involved, or $50 if you didn't buy anything from us. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain of these limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.
Changes
If these terms change, this page changes with them, along with its date. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
