# Features and supported hardware

> Compare Serin Controller firmware, app controls, board support and Serin Link compatibility.

These tables cover the standard NanoC6 and Atom S3 Lite builds. Custom ESPHome configurations may omit features. Check your indoor unit with the [model checker](https://serin-labs.com/compatibility.html).

## Firmware and apps

| Firmware | Usual app route | Setup and maintenance |
| --- | --- | --- |
| ESPHome | Home Assistant | Join Wi-Fi, adopt in ESPHome and add the integration. Customize and update from the ESPHome dashboard. |
| HomeKit-compatible | Apple Home | Join Wi-Fi, then add the accessory. Extra controls and updates are in the controller web interface. |
| Matter-compatible | Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings; also Apple Home or Home Assistant through Matter | The app supplies Wi-Fi credentials during Bluetooth commissioning. Extra controls and updates are in the web interface. |

For certification and source availability, see [firmware differences](https://serin-labs.com/controller/firmware.html#differences) and [licenses and compliance](https://serin-labs.com/licenses.html).

## Controls and temperature sources

Scroll sideways to read all columns.

| Feature | What determines availability |
| --- | --- |
| Mode and target temperature | All three builds control the indoor unit. App thermostat cards expose different subsets of its modes. |
| Fan speed and vane direction | Depend on the indoor unit, firmware configuration and app. Web controls provide options some apps omit. |
| Heat-pump diagnostics | Available through the HomeKit/Matter web interface. ESPHome adds optional diagnostic entities through its configuration. |
| Bluetooth room sensor | Direct reading is available with supported sensors. HomeKit/Matter use web settings; ESPHome direct reading requires a suitable sensor configuration. |
| Home Assistant temperature entity | An ESPHome configuration can forward a temperature entity from Home Assistant. Home Assistant must remain available. |
| Serin Link room sensor | Pair Serin Link, then select it as the temperature source. Pairing alone enables control. |

See [controls and entities](https://serin-labs.com/controller/controls.html) for the values exposed, and [room sensor setup](https://serin-labs.com/controller/room-sensors.html) for each route.

## Supported boards and Serin Link

Scroll sideways to read all columns.

| Board | Released controller firmware | Serin Link |
| --- | --- | --- |
| M5Stack NanoC6 | ESPHome, HomeKit-compatible and Matter-compatible | Supported with all three standard firmware builds. |
| M5Stack Atom S3 Lite | ESPHome, HomeKit-compatible and Matter-compatible | Supported with all three standard firmware builds. |
| Other ESP32 boards | Support and build availability vary. Check the source project and the flash tool. | Do not infer support from the chip name alone. Check the particular build and board. |

Custom configurations must include Serin Link support. See the [board reference](https://serin-labs.com/parts.html) and [published builds](https://serin-labs.com/flash.html).

## Requirements and limits

All three builds use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. A fresh Matter installation needs a compatible hub, local IPv6 and a phone nearby for commissioning. Other app and hub requirements are listed in the [setup guides](https://serin-labs.com/controller/manual.html#install).

Only one accessory can occupy CN105; splitters are not supported. A feature listed here remains subject to the indoor unit's capabilities. For limits such as local-interface access and automatic updates, see [settings the controller does not provide](https://serin-labs.com/controller/settings.html#limits).
